Hounsdown School promotes Fair Trade. We sell Fair Trade Uniform through KoolSchools and have a number of Fair Trade events through the year. Mrs Hortop and a number of students had lots of Fair Trade gifts on sale in the Christmas fair.
Fairtrade Fortnight 2016
The theme for this year’s Fairtrade fortnight was “Sit down for breakfast, stand up for famers”. The group decided to provide a breakfast for staff one morning with an offer of Fairtrade breakfast products such as tea, coffee and muffins made with Fairtrade sugar. The group also ran a lunchtime stall which was very well supported by staff and students. Events that were also held included a tutor quiz and assembly presentations.
However the students deserve the biggest congratulations for winning a competition at the Wildern School Fairtrade conference. The group competed against other schools to produce and present their ideas for a new breakfast bar. They demonstrated excellent team work skills and eventually went on to win the prize for the best presentation. The winning team include: Meadow Garrett, Georgia Hubble, Jade Wiltshire, Orla Hogan-Cottee, Jake Dawkins, Ellie McMann and Ella West. This wonderful lead team of students have worked very hard over the course of Fairtrade fortnight and the efforts of Elodie Rogers and Hannah Blake also need recognition.
