Hounsdown School - A Science College

Hounsdown Alumni

The Hounsdown School Alumni has been formed to help former students and staff to stay in contact with each other, and for the School and to continue to play a part in the wider community.

We also would love to hear from you since leaving school, what you've been up to and how you are getting on😊

Below are a few snippets from some of our former students that have been in touch already...

Hannah (2006)
I've become a confident Solo traveller & adrenaline Junkie, Skydived, Mountain Climbing at Night up Snowdon. I’m very proud of the woman I've become. I will always fondly remember my favourite Art Teacher at Hounsdown, Miss Jones xx

Matthew (2007)
Studied at Bristol Old Vic Theatre school after college. Have worked in theatre across UK and internationally for over 15 years. Hounsdown was the making of me. I owe the school a lot. They were amazing days.

Sarah (2011)
I have lived in New Zealand for the last 12 years. I studied a degree in Sport &Exercise Science in Auckland. I went on to work with athletes and then as a Les Mills personal trainer. But for the last 6 years I have been a stay-at-home mum to two little boys Louie & Freddie. I work alongside my partner Marcus, managing his family farm in Hawkes Bay, NZ. Loved Hounsdown so much and think of it very fondly.

Georgina (2012)
Just a space to say, I really feel that Hounsdown helped me so much to go into the world with so much confidence in myself and belief that I could and would succeed in whatever I did. I worked in finance within a mortgage broker for years while going between Tanzania and here, achieving qualifications in para planning and now help to support children from the centre with school sponsors from all over the world.

Taryn (2013)
Outside of working for WMG, I started a band and we have since been signed to a label, toured and played many places around the world. Last summer we played Reading and Leeds festival amongst others! I would love to reconnect with my old music teacher Miss Carter if I am able. She was very encouraging and inspiring.

Emily (2013)
I have had the opportunity to write a children’s picture book for Southampton City Council to use in their primary schools about healthier ways to travel to school. As a keen booklover, it has been thrilling to see my name in a book! It has given me the confidence to keep writing and hopefully see my name in Waterstones one day too!

I adored my time at Hounsdown, Mr Blackman was an absolutely brilliant head of year and Mr Veal a very funny Chemistry teacher. I hope they’re both well :)

Megan (2014)
Nothing exciting, sorry. I just wanted to use this box to say I had a fab education at Hounsdown and thank you. A lot of my teaching is influenced by your excellent teachers. I love seeing updates from the school pop up on my Facebook page.

Zoe (2014)
Married another ex Hounsdown student and have a young baby together! I spent many a time in year 11 with Mr Veal trying to get me through my GSCE Physics, please pass on my thanks as I look back fondly even though I’m still not the biggest physics fan!!

Amelia (2019)
After leaving Hounsdown, I studied biology, chemistry, and biology at Barton, before studying Biomedical Science at University of Southampton (1st Class Hons). I have been trying to get in touch with Mrs Pennell (Chemistry Teacher & My Tutor 2014-19) ever since but have not been able to reach out to her. Mrs Pennell would always look out for me at school and gave me 1-1 tutor lessons every Thursday after school after learning my dream was to get an A in Chemistry. She is the reason now I am applying, and have been offered, interviews for Medical School, she made me believe in myself and honestly is the most inspirational teacher I’ve ever met. I will forever be indebted to the time she gave me at school, and I would love to be able to get back in touch with her to let her know how grateful i am for her help in where I am right now.

Alana (2022)
I’m working my way up with music! I took it as a GCSE and I’m now doing promoting here and there with Placeholder Promotions putting on DIY hardcore and metalcore shows around Southampton. I’m currently working at Engine Rooms and looking at being promoted to an artist rep. It’s taken me years to find my calling but I 100% have Mr Jones to thank for making music my favourite lesson and for getting me into the type of bands I’d promote and Miss Kaur for making English my SECOND favourite lesson so I could write out loads of lengthy emails🤣 We put on a charity Halloween show at The Hobbit to raise some money for medical aid for Palestine and Camp Beagle which we’re super proud of.

Honor (2022)
I’m currently in my second year of university studying Geography! Massive thanks to the whole geography department at Hounsdown for helping to find my love for the subject!!
