Hounsdown School is a strategic partner in the ETC Teaching School Alliance.
We also work in partnership with Southampton University and its ITT programme (SUPA), Chichester University and Bitterne Park Teaching School. We accept both PGCE and School Direct trainees as placement for initial teacher training.

Recruitment for School Direct positions can be made through:

Graduates interested in training to become a teacher can contact us to arrange a visit at any time during the academic year. We welcome not only new graduates looking to go into the teaching profession, but teachers considering a return to teaching, having had a career break. Additionally, SCITT Applicants wishing to visit Hounsdown School can do so through the School Experience Programme (SEP).
If you are looking to embark on initial teacher training (ITT), we are pleased to offer a number of placement days for eligible applicants looking to teach English, Maths or Science in conjunction with the School Experience Programme.

The School Experience sessions provide an opportunity to discuss routes into teaching, to tour the school and spend time in the department of your interested teaching subject.

We like to keep in touch with our alumni as much as we can. If you are either recently graduated, preparing to graduate or travel the world you may be considering a career in teaching, inspiring young people as Hounsdown teachers inspired you.
Did you know that we work closely in partnership with Wildern School, a Teaching School , which now runs its own teacher training programme, offering Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Masters credits?
The Wildern Partnership School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT), graded Outstanding in its first Ofsted inspection in November 2016, is a school-based teacher training route into teaching offering both Primary and Secondary programmes. Good teachers are in demand, and there are excellent employment prospects. The Wildern Partnership SCITT has a 100% employment track record and our trainees continue to do well in their teaching careers.
